Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve had the privilege of reconnecting with friends and colleagues, many of whom, like me, are keeping an eye out for exciting new opportunities. 🌟
What’s struck me in these conversations is the diverse experiences people have found in their job-hunting journeys. 🧵 (No, I won’t start on the lack of communication, feedback etc. etc.)
As someone who’s spent over two decades in the world of Talent Acquisition, I’ve had a front-row seat to witness the evolution of job hunting from the candidate’s perspective. 📊
So, I thought it might be valuable to share some insights and tips based on my experience. Today, I’ll dive into a couple of key points, but keep an eye out for more in the coming week. Feel free to reach out if you’re hungry for more specific advice. 🚀
1️⃣ | Crafting Your CV (Grrrrrr, so subjective)
While we all wish for a better way, CVs still reign supreme in the hiring realm. So here’s a quick dive:
Tailor your CV: Analyze the job description and pluck out relevant experiences and achievements (which are gold). If those achievements can be quantified in terms of pounds, time, efficiency—brilliant!
Keep it clean: Make the format simple, easy to read, and digest. Remember, humans read them, but so do some ATSs. Clear headers, especially for achievements, work wonders. And aim for a sleek 2-page format.
2️⃣ | The Job Board Jungle
Do you need to register on every job board out there? Well, not quite.
Optimize alerts: Indeed, Google Jobs (a hidden gem for some), and of course, LinkedIn, can cover about 95% of all the roles out there. Set up job alerts based on your criteria—this might take some tinkering, but it’s worth it.
Master the search: If you want to fine-tune your alerts, Indeed has an excellent guide on Boolean search strings link here https://www.indeed.com/career-advice/career-development/boolean-search-strings. It helps you refine your job alerts for the most relevant opportunities.
Niche it up: While these giants have you mostly covered, it’s a good idea to explore industry-specific job boards for those unique opportunities.
That’s a wrap for today, folks. Stay tuned for more insights next week, and if you find this post helpful, please consider resharing to support anyone in your network on the job hunt. Wishing you all a fantastic weekend ahead. 🙌
