Unlock Tomorrow’s Talent: from the British Recruitment Awards

Last week’s British Recruitment Awards, by New Possible, in London provided an illuminating look into the future of recruitment, where I had the honor of presenting the award for In-House Leader of the Year. The panel discussions delved into the profound impact of AI on future jobs, with a consensus that AI will act as an enabler for strategic operations.

Skills-based recruitment emerged as a key theme, prompting a crucial question: What skills do we and will we need in the future? Paul Maxin and the panel highlighted a critical issue – the uneven access to AI tools, emphasising its potential implications for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (ED&I).

Shifting gears, the conversation turned to the 2024 priorities of individuals and their respective organisations. Fiona Lauser of Home Instead expressed a commitment to engaging with schools early to demystify the care sector. Notably, they are focused on guaranteed hours and championing male participation in caregiving, witnessing a remarkable 56% increase in male carers.

At Grant Thornton, Richard Waite underscored the ongoing significance of candidate experience as a competitive differentiator. He stressed the importance of candidate advocacy, aligning with the priorities for the coming year:

  1. Building Talent Pools and Communities: Transforming into a talent hub to facilitate connections.
  2. Internal Talent Acquisition Expertise: Emphasising internal expertise as much as external.
  3. Brilliant Basics: Focusing on fundamental recruitment practices.
  4. Post-Pandemic Strategies: Planning a strong return to recruitment, leveraging pandemic learnings.
  5. AI and Bias Mitigation: Addressing concerns about AI discrimination through continuous checks and conscious efforts to eliminate biases.

These priorities re affirmed our views and approach to solutions and services we offer our customers. Recruiter enablement is a big topic within Talent Acquisition right now. Not just for recruiters, but recruitment managers with enablement truly unlocking your ability to unlock both talent communities and pools into talent hubs. Our talent & employer brand audit & diagnostic can help you unlock tomorrow’s talent, defining your needs to activate this. We are then well positioned to help you build the processes, data and technology your people need to deliver this.

As we navigate the evolving recruitment landscape, these insights offer a roadmap for staying ahead and ensuring fairness and equity in the age of AI. Looking forward to a future where recruitment is not just effective but ethical and inclusive.
