Recent LinkedIn Poll | Onboarding πŸ”

πŸ” After running a recent poll on LinkedIn, I asked bothΒ #candidatesΒ andΒ #recruitersΒ to weigh in on the most critical phase of the recruitment process for them.

The results speak volumes:
Application: 25%
Interview: 59%
Offer/negotiation: 16%
Start date: 0%

Unsurprisingly, the interview phase dominated with 59% of the vote. The interview is often considered the pivotal moment in the recruitment journey, and for good reason. πŸŽ™οΈ

What caught my eye, though, was the mere 0% who selected the start date as the most critical phase. Does this reflect where recruiters believe their responsibility ends or perhaps an oversight? In my perspective, the start date is pivotal; it marks the beginning of a new hire’s journey with a company.
Neglecting a smooth onboarding experience can lead to new employees feeling lost and disheartened.

An alarming 64% of employees are likely to leave a new job within their first year after a negative onboarding experience (according to HiBob). Also, recent data from NerdWallet pegs the recruitment cost of a full-time hire in the UK at Β£6,552.

So, if you’re grappling with rising cases of candidates ghosting offers or no-shows on the first day, it might be time to revisit your onboarding process. Your recruiters and hiring managers will appreciate it, and it can save you from reopening and re-recruiting vacancies by ensuring new hires are set up for success in their first year and beyond.

Here are some tips to craft a positive onboarding experience:
πŸš€ Provide clear expectations and goals.
🀝 Introduce new hires to their team and give them time to bond.
πŸ› οΈ Offer access to the resources they need for success.
πŸ™Œ Make them feel genuinely welcome and valued.
By following these pointers, you can foster a positive onboarding experience that sets your new employees on a path to success in their new roles. 🌟 #OnboardingExperience#CandidateExperience#TalentAcquisition
